Vaper’s guide

Want to learn about vaping? If you’re an adult smoker or vaper interested in knowing more, keep reading to explore our intro to vaping e-cigs. We’ve uncomplicated the basics in our guide. Read on to learn how e-cigarettes and vapes work, what goes into e-liquid, and the different types of vapes available.

What is vaping?

The simple answer is: inhaling the vapour that’s created when a vaping device heats e-liquid.

The process involves applying heat to a liquid, usually containing nicotine and flavourings (though nicotine-free versions are available). This generates a virtually odourless vapour that’s then inhaled by the vaper. And since no tobacco is burned, the nicotine is delivered without the smell of smoke or ash.

Vaping history

Vaping may seem like a recent trend, but you’ll find the roots of the modern e-cigarette in a patent for an ‘electric vaporizer’ that was filed in New York in 1927.

Although inventors experimented with the idea for decades, with the first prototypes being built in the 1960s, it wasn’t until a Chinese medical researcher manufactured the first e-cigarette in 2003 that vaping really took off. Since then, vaping has piqued the interest of millions worldwide, with new devices being introduced all the time. Logic has continued to innovate over the years, with our newest vape, Logic Compact.

How do pods and vape pens work?

Before we get to the different types of devices, let’s start out with the basics – how do vapes work and what are the different parts they’re made of?

A vaporizer (also called an e-cigarette/e-cig or a vape/vape pen) is a device that uses a small, internal heating element called a coil to heat an e-liquid and turn it into vapor that can be inhaled. In basic terms, vapes consist of four main parts – a mouthpiece, battery, e-liquid container, and heating element. While every device has all four parts, their configuration will vary depending on the model you’re using. More complicated vapes tend to have all four parts separate, so they can be changed and modified by users. But more convenient models, like pod vapes (also called vape pens), generally have three of the elements – the mouthpiece, heating coil, and pre-filled e-liquid container – all together in one easy-to-replace piece.

What are the different types of vapes?

There are a number of different types of vapes, from simple disposable models to more complicated, customizable devices.

Rechargeable all-in-one vape pens, like the pod system, bring together the ease-of-use of disposable models with the vaping experience of more advanced vapes. The great thing about pod systems is that there is very little maintenance involved, and no mess when it’s time for a refill, since e-liquid pods (also known as capsules) are pre-filled with e-liquid and can simply be replaced when empty. This makes Logic Compact a great vape on the go. You can change pods in just a few seconds, no matter where you are, and its handy small shape means It can go wherever you do.

About e-liquid

Let’s take a look inside e-liquid. E-liquid (also called e-juice or vape juice) is heated inside your device and turned into vapor that you can inhale.

Logic e-liquids consist of three critical components: VG (Vegetable Glycerin), PG (Propylene Glycol), and flavorings. PG and VG are liquids that act as carriers for the other ingredients and create the visible body of the vapor. As a rule, e-liquids with a higher VG content tend to produce more vapor volume, while PG does a better job of enhancing flavor because it’s a thinner, tasteless compound that allows the true flavors to shine through.

E-liquid nicotine STRENGTHS & FLAVOURS

The next ingredient is nicotine. Although there are nicotine-free e-liquids available, most e-liquids contain nicotine in different strengths, measured in mg/ml. The nicotine in the e-liquid will come in one of two forms — distilled (a.k.a. «standard» nicotine) or nicotine salts. E-liquids at lower strengths (generally below 18 mg/mL) tend to use distilled nicotine for a balance between vapor volume and taste. E-liquids with higher nicotine strengths (above 18 mg/ml) tend to use nicotine salts — which are created by adding benzoic acid to the e-liquid — because they don’t affect e-liquid flavor at higher nicotine strengths like distilled e-liquids do. E-liquids come in a range of flavors, so you may need to try a few different e-liquids to find whether you like tobacco, mint, fruit, or rich flavors. We have two different flavor ranges — in two nicotine strengths from 58-59mg/ml and 34 mg/ml.
